Indian Army Doctors created an impressive achievement by doing an operation successful for an 7 years old child diagnosed with rare primary immunodeficiency disorder by conducting bone marrow transplant.
On 17, December, 2023 Ministry of Defence announced that in Army Hospital at Delhi, they had done a operation for an 7 year child who was suffering for rare disorder which is called immunodeficiency disorder. For a small child who is 7 years old, doctors done an bone marrow transplant operation.
It was an extraordinary medical achievement, to conduct bone marrow transplant and make it success at the first time itself.
Following the transplant, Lieutenant General Ajith Nilakantan, the Commandant of AHRR, stated, “This patient is a success story because of a team effort, and it’s a moment of great pride and satisfaction for the entire medical fraternity at AHRR.”
According to Brig Rajan Kapoor, the Head of the Hematology Department, Sushanth Paudel’s journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. This accomplishment is a credit to the hard work and cooperation of our committed medical staff, the steadfast support of Sushant’s family, and the kindness of the donor. This is the first immunodeficiency transplant of its kind that we are aware of in India.”
In addition to giving Sushant and his family hope, the successful bone marrow transplant also acts as a ray of hope for countless more people suffering from uncommon primary immunodeficiencies and other illnesses of a similar nature that can be cured with a timely bone marrow transplant.
