On December 29, Indian Government and United Liberation Front of Assam signs a memorandum that agreeing peace in state Assam. The peace accord was signed in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Amit Shah said, “in 1977 due to violence created by ULFA resulted losing of 10,000 people lives. It took nearly 12 years to make this happen for central government. Assam as suffered a lot due to the violence created by this organization. Now by this agreement ULFA agreed to stop violence, shutting down the group and accepting to join into democratic process as whole country following.
ABOUT ULFA:
ULFA is a separate armed group which was created by saying to establish a separated sovereign state for Assam in 1979. It began it official operations from 1990. Military operations also began in 1990 against ULFA group. This militant group (ULFA) was also banned in 1990 by central government by declaring it as a terrorist group, while ULFA lists under “other group of concerns”.
According to some sources, in 1990 this group also demanded corers of rupees from companies like Tata Tea, Unilever, and some more.
From December 29, ULFA group had closed, and Assam is free from one of the long-lasting terror group.
