Parliamentary winter session concludes a day before as per scheduled. Know what bills are passed in the sessions.
The winter session of parliament took place from December 4, 2023 until December 21, 2023. 2023 saw a great deal of surprises in a variety of sectors. The majority of the MPs were suspended, there was a security breach, and the vice president was humiliated—all unexpected events that occurred in the same parliament.
Security Breach:
A identical incident occurred in Parliament on the same day that it was attacked, exactly 22 years later. Two people carrying color canisters made their way inside the parliament chamber. In all, about six people were detained in this matter and are currently being held by Delhi police. The Central Government and PM Modi took it seriously, and a thorough investigation was conducted.
MPs Suspended:
Both Lok Shaba and Raj Shaba suspended 146 opposition MPs. This resulted by interfering with the sessions’ processes. This dramatic suspension occurred following a security breach on December 13. The MPs were suspended for the winter session at the government’s request. Bills that had no opposition party were passed.
Bills Passed:
During the winter session, the majority of the bills were cleared in the December 2023 sitting. On December 12, the government introduced 7 bills in the sitting, all of which were cleared in the Lok Shaba. However, two bills have not yet been cleared in the Raj Shaba sitting. On December 18, the telecommunication bill, 2023, was introduced in the sitting and was cleared in both houses on two separate days. On December 13, two finance bills were introduced in the sitting, and one bill relating to the NCLT Bill was also cleared in both Houses. In total, 13 bills were introduced during the sitting, out of which 11 were cleared by the Lok Shaba House and 9 were cleared by the Raj Shaba House.
